Custom Callers and Voice Import

Published · Updated

Scam With Your Friends supports custom caller content through modding, but the current public information is uneven. This draft collects what can be attributed and keeps unknowns separate. It is kept out of search results because it is not yet a complete verified workflow.

Entry points

Start by separating two tasks:

Goal Confirmed route
Create a new caller Open Character Creator; after Hotfix 2 it opens directly into caller creation.
Edit an existing caller Open the caller through Daily Callers.

The removed Localize Voice buttons are not evidence that voice support disappeared. They are a removed control from an earlier interface. Follow the current caller-editing UI rather than searching for a hidden replacement button.

JSON personalities

Community documentation says the game supports custom personalities through JSON files. That is the safe limit of the claim. The available material does not verify a complete schema, required keys, field ranges, save directory, or a supported import command. A generic JSON tutorial will not answer game-specific validation questions.

If the current game provides an export option, use its output as the reference structure. If not, the safest procedure is to duplicate an existing working file before editing, change one field at a time, and preserve a backup. This is a general file-safety procedure, not a claim that a specific export control exists.

WAV and MP3 voices

Update 0.1.73 fixes a Windows crash when importing WAV or MP3 voice recordings in Character Creator. The wording establishes those two recording formats as relevant to voice import. It does not establish a complete audio specification, maximum duration, channel requirement, bitrate recommendation, or exact picker flow.

If imports fail, first confirm that you are on a current build. A valid MP3 rejected because of extra audio padding and a supported extended WAV that failed to load are both specifically named in 0.1.73 update information. After patching, retry the original file before re-encoding or renaming it.

Multiplayer and Workshop

Update 0.1.73 improves multiplayer changes made through Daily Callers. If a caller list or local change appears inconsistent in a co-op lobby, update everyone and retry before assuming a corrupted file. Steam Workshop is also supported, and the community guide identifies it as a route for caller content.

No specific Workshop item is recommended here. A package's compatibility can change with the Early Access build, and the available sources do not establish a version manifest or review process for arbitrary caller files. Check the Workshop page, comments, permissions, and your current game version before installing.

Remaining questions

The following remain unverified and should not be guessed:

  • Exact JSON schema and field validation.
  • Save locations and backup locations.
  • Audio sample rates, bit depths, channels, or file size limits.
  • Precise Workshop upload controls and metadata requirements.
  • Whether every creator feature is available in every multiplayer role.

Until official documentation answers those points, keep this page as a draft. It is more useful to say that a schema is unknown than to invent keys that can break a custom caller.
